Chic decorating with lilac and unique DIY French vases – learn how to easily add chic touches to your home with lilac (or other seasonal flowers) and unique French vases decorated by you!
Hello, friends! I really feel that we need to bring as much beauty into our lives as we can, especially in these troubled times! Small things like decorating our home with fresh flowers can really lift up our mood and help us cope better with the current (sometimes quite stressful) situation. Bringing a little bit of nature indoors can instantly brighten up our homes … and our lives!
Lilac is one of my favorite flowers, I love how it’s really delicate but in the same time, also holds so much personality!
And when paired with a beautiful, truly unique DIY French vase that you decorated yourself? They are simply a match made in Heaven! :)
I’m a visual person and the beauty of lilac flowers always bring a large smile on my face. I’m even smiling right now when looking at these photos! :)
I actually photographed the chic lilac and the unique DIY French vases last year but never got around to posting them on the blog. Until now! :) Now feels like the perfect time to actually share them with you, I really hope they will bring you a little bit of happiness!
Chic decorating with lilac and unique DIY French vases
I’m sure you already know by now how much I love making my own decorations and adding my personal touch to regular everyday items, all around our home. I decorated this chic French vase from Ikea a while ago (in 2015?!!) and I still adore it! You can find the DIY project here -> DIY French Vases. It’s a quick and easy faux enamel Ikea hack!
As you can see, the waterslide decal paper is still holding, even after all these years! Have you tried decorating with decal paper yet? It’s one of my favorite ways when it comes to quickly adding a little bit of charm to an object!

I just love decorating beautiful French vases and using them in our home with fresh, seasonal flowers! But if I don’t have any fresh flowers around, I don’t stress too much. I just replace them with a few dried lavender sprigs and turn the vases into essential oils diffusers! So chic, but also practical, this way our home smells beautiful and feels fresh, no matter the season!

The next ‘vase’ I had fun playing with is actually a small apothecary bottle, one that I decorated using these lovelies -> DIY French Ephemera Fabric Labels. I made the fabric label using the iron on transfer technique, this too has passed the test of time!

For the next vase I want you to try imagining it’s potential! :) I know the title of this article is how to decorate with lilac and unique DIY French vases and this vase right here has no signs of Frenchiness whatsoever. For now it’s just a beautifully shaped vase, but I think it would look amazing if French decorated. Just a little bit, maybe with a chic French ephemera label? Or maybe completely transformed with white paint AND a chic French ephemera label? What do you think? What would you do? Decisions, decisions ;)
P.S. Let’s just take a minute to smell this gorgeous lilac! Can you feel how incredibly fragrant it is? :)

I’ve recently heard that you can actually eat lilac flowers while adding it to all sorts of things like lilac sugar, lilac syrup, lilac lemonade, even lilac jelly! Have you tried any of these recipes? Maybe I’ll give a few of them a try next year, I’m really curious about the taste! :)

Who says you can only use vases for holding your favorite flowers, right? :)
You can also paint some glass pitchers and turn them into insanely beautiful and truly unique DIY French vases! -> DIY Aged French Picthers. Use them with faux flowers when you don’t have natural flowers around.
TIPS & TRICKS
The faux flowers can also be turned into essential oil diffusers, just add a few drops on the petals and your house will smell simply divine, even without any fresh flowers!
That’s it for today, make some unique DIY French vases for your home and just fill them with all the lilac that you can find! :)

That “bowling ball” shaped vase might well be even more fabulous if you added some IOD molds. Those molds are always on my list of ways to improve anything.

Wicked old, I know what you mean, I adore the chic look of IOD molds!
Unfortunately they are not easy to find in my country, will have to think of something else :)

HI Diana
Just want to thank you for sharing so many wonderful projects. I saw your article on creating waxed French labels on the Graphics Fairy website and I have a question.
Have you ever just melted the wax and dipped the paper into the wax rather than melting the wax shavings on each label or art piece? I think that would be easier since I have a very small slow cooker pot that would be perfect for melting wax.
Would the dipping method add too much wax to the paper and make it difficult to use?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Pam, I’m really happy you you like my projects! :)
I haven’t tried dipping the paper into the melted wax, but I think it would work just fine. Maybe even better, depending on the effect you are looking for! :)
The only thing that could go wrong would be to have too much wax on the paper, just like you said. But you could use a heat gun (or your hairdryer) and some tweezers (to hold the label over your slow cooker) and just melt the excess wax off while letting it drip into your slow cooker again.
It would be ideal to get the paper completely saturated with the wax and not have too much of a thick layer, but it would also be great to experiment with a thicker layer, maybe you will love that one too! :)
P.S. Sorry it took me so much time to answer, it looks like some of the comments end up in the spam folder for no reason…

This is spectacular! I adore the billowing effect of the lilacs, not to mention their glorious colour. Lovely! Now, I know you should crush the branches of lilac to increase the ability to take in water, what else can I do to make lilacs last longer?
Diana / Dreams Factory
Thank you, Kate, I’m really obsessing over lilac too! :)
I’ve read somewhere that you can add a little bit of sugar to make them last longer, not sure if it’s working though.
Let me know if you give it a try! :)
