Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing how to make the most amazing DIY Faux Enamel French Number Tags! I will walk you through all the steps on how to make them and of course I will also share the free printable, so you can make these beauties in no time! You can use the tags for organizing different items or recipients in your home, but also to add a little bit of oomph to your decor.
This was one of those projects that took years to complete. And I don’t mean that figuratively! :) I started an initial version of this project years ago, then I completely forgot about it. Or maybe Life just got in the way, who knows…
But when I saw these numbers from this simple, but beautiful vintage typography graphic from the early 1900 on The Graphics Fairy, I somehow knew they would be perfect for my long forgotten tags.

The tags are quite easy to make once you have the MDF tags cut out. Mr Dreamy helped me with this part, so you can just ask for help, like I did or cut them yourself, if you know how to.
And then, it was time to embellish them using a few distressing techniques. A few FUN distressing techniques that will allow you to experiment and create something that you really love!
This project was definitely one of those projects where I felt like taking experiments a little bit further and I used a gloss medium gel to transfer the numbers. Shocker, I know, considering I’m almost always using waterslide decal paper for my transfers! :)
The results were definitely not perfect, but I feel like all these small imperfections managed to perfectly contribute to the whole vintage enamel concept I was envisioning. I was IN LOVE with my new DIY Faux Enamel French Number Tags, I guess sometimes you just got to go with the flow and let yourself be surprised!
I also performed one final trick to my tags that really took them from ‘OK, I like these MDF tags’ to ‘Wow, I’m obsessed with these enamel tags, they look surreal and soooo authentic! :)
This final trick that I performed managed to create really beautiful effects on my DIY Faux Enamel French Number Tags, giving them even more of that worn and vintage vibe that we all love.

And when it comes to actually using these magnificent DIY Faux Enamel French Number Tags … the sky is the limit! :) Just add them everywhere in your home for a little bit of extra chicness. Or why not, try to include them in other creative projects? Or simply use them to embellish gifts in a truly unique way. Or even better, turn them into unique presents for the holidays or for any other special occasion, I’m sure everyone will ADORE them! :)
P.S. You will need a laserjet printer to print your free printable and do the gel medium image transfer. If you don’t have a laserjet printer, you can go to a copy center and print the free printable there. Easy peasy, what-can-I-do-if-I-don’t-have-a-laserjet-printer-at-home problem … solved! :)
