Learn how to make DIY Spinning Eiffel Tower Windmill Tags – use this beautiful free printable French ephemera postcard, paint it with watercolors and distress it if you want, then add a little bit of metallic gold foil to get some super amazing golden final touches!
Hello, friends! It’s time to get creative once again, today I’m sharing with you a super fun DIY project, that you just HAVE to try! These DIY Spinning Eiffel Tower Windmill Tags are easy to make, can be personalized with your favorite colors and can be distressed or not – depending on your preferences. I created the free printable, just to make things a little bit easier for you, just save them on your computer and print them.
I know adding propellers to the Eiffel Tower and actually turning it into a windmill might sound quirky, but then again, why not do it, right? Quirky can be fun, sometimes! :)
I initially thought about gluing the windmill blades on top of the tags, just to have that really cool 3D element I sometimes love to add to my projects. But then I realized it would be so much fancier to actually make the propellers spin! All said and done! :) I was excited to see these actually work, now I’m planning to adapt this idea to tonnnsss of other projects!
I really love giving you room for experimenting and making things your way, so I always have this in mind, even when sharing a free printable. You will see that I designed the French ephemera tags, the Eiffel tower and the propellers as separate elements, just in case you want to do things a little bit different or maybe use them on other projects too.
Other DIY projects with 3D elements that you can try:
Vintage Butterfly Bookmarks | Mixed Media Bee Tags | Vintage Poppy Tags
I will share all the steps on:
1. how to watercolor the tags using neutral colors (on the warmer side, like Burnt Umber and Yellow Ochre) to give the paper a faux aged look.
2. how to actually distress the edges of the paper using water (it’s really easy!), then come in with more watercolors.
3. how to watercolor the propellers to add a pop of color and also how to add that chic gold foil on the edges
4. how to bring everything together and assemble all the separate elements and what to consider when actually attaching the propellers (it can be quite tricky!)
The DIY Spinning Eiffel Tower Windmill Tags won’t produce enough air and movement to actually be used as cooling fans, but how amazing would that be?! :) Anyway, maybe just the thought of working on these propellers would create some sort of a comforting cooling effect, so I’m really hoping you will give them a spin! :)
