DIY Coffee Stained French Tray Risers – learn how to make these gorgeous French trays using natural wood boards stained with coffee, then paint and embellish them with your favorite French ephemera images using waterslide decal paper. A simple DIY project that will allow you to create these high-end designer pieces perfect for decorating your home in a stylish way!
Hello, creative friends! I’m back with another DIY project for you, some super chic DIY Coffee Stained French Tray Risers! You will be able to adapt this project to your own needs and recreate it on your own terms! I’m using coffee to distress the wood today, I feel coffee can bring in some of that lovely vintage vibe that we all love, but without being too overpowering.
I’ve had a project like this in mind for a while and my idea was to create something simple using materials I already had around. You can do that too! And now it just seems like these two cutting boards were born for this project! ;) I used two different-sized natural cutting boards, it’s always great to use different sizes while creating a project like this. You will not only have two gorgeous DIY French Tray Risers, but you will be able to stack and use them together if you want.

If you haven’t used coffee before to stain wood, you should definitely give it a try! It won’t react like a regular stain that you can usually buy in a craft or hardware store, but more like watercolors. It can be activated with water over and over again to create beautiful effects.

I initially envisioned this project with some beautiful carved wooden legs, but I couldn’t find some anywhere. I couldn’t even find them online, so I’ve decided to not let that one thing stop me and improvised with these simple wooden beads. They actually turned out to be a perfect choice!
You should keep in mind that coffee looks darker when used as a stain and applied to the wood but it will lighten up after drying. So you might need to ‘paint’ several layers, then let them dry to achieve that perfect color that you are envisioning. I’m sharing the step-by-step tutorial on how to recreate this project on your own on The Graphics Fairy, just click on the link at the end of this post to go there. Please don’t be intimidated by all the steps, I just wanted to cover everything in detail so you can easily make these gorgeous DIY French Tray Risers yourself!
You will be amazed to see that this is actually a simple project that will be such a great addition to your home! You will be able to get creative and experiment while making your own high-end designer trays using only a handful of supplies!
I’m really happy with how this project turned out, this will bring morning coffee routines into a new dimension, don’t you think? :) You can even decorate your coffee cups with one of my DIY Faux Rusted French Labels to bring even more charm to this whole assembly.
I would say that the best part of this project is that it can be easily adapted to any home, no matter if you are going for a vintage, shabby chic, farmhouse or more of a cottage vibe! You can pair the trays with freshly cut flowers, this sensational lilac from our garden complements them really well! You can also add greenery and even fresh fruits!
