3D Tissue Paper Flower Tags
I used a gorgeous rhododendron image to create the design, this image has quickly become one of my all-time favorite images! It’s from the artist Catharina Klein, her work is truly romantic! I don’t know how to explain this, but I feel it speaks so much to my soul! I’m not sure if it’s the watercolor feel that she usually imprints on her paintings or the colors she uses that speak the most to me, but there is something about her work that I find truly appealing.
These vintage flower tags are really beautiful on their own, with their perfectly imperfect edges and watercolor vibe. And once you add the tissue paper flower on top, they become even more stunning! My trusted Winsor & Newton Cotman pocket box watercolors helped me while painting the flowers, but if you want, you can also use your favorite acrylic paints!
regular paper or cardstock | printer | scissors | mini distress inks | blending tool with foams | watercolors or highly diluted acrylic paint | round brush | recycled jars for water | Decocolor gold marker (my all-time favorite gold marker) or Kuretake Gansai Tambi gold watercolors (also my all-time favorites) |
bronze gourd pins or gold gourd pins | glue stick or craft glue | pencil | hole punch | crinkle ribbon | silicon mat (for protecting your working space)
There are a few things you need to consider while painting the tissue paper with watercolors to create the 3D flowers on top, but you will see that the process itself is quite relaxing and fun! I will show you:
- what to consider in terms of paper when printing the tags
- how to cut the tags
- how to distress the paper using distress ink … and your fingers
- how to trace and cut the tissue paper flowers
- how to paint the tissue paper flowers
- how to glue the 3D flowers and match the design underneath so they will look their best
- how to add some gold touches
- how to further embellish the tags using ribbons and gourd pins
The best part about this project is that each final 3D flower tag will be truly unique and absolutely gorgeous on its own! You won’t believe these are made with tissue paper (even though you made them), once you go with your fingers over the delicate petals of the flowers, you’ll wonder if you are touching real flowers!
