DIY Large Gift Tags – learn how to make your own gifts tags, in several different sizes. Personalize and decorate them as you wish and include them in your gift wrapping sessions or use them in other creative projects.

Hello, friends! Making your own DIY Large Gift Tags has never been easier! Today I thought it would be fun to share a free printable with you that will empower you to make your own gift tags! No special skills required, or special cutting machines, anyone can do this project in no time! Because I love being practical myself, I always keep the idea of having multiple choices when making one of my projects in my mind. I do that for me, but also for you! Different sizes mean you’ll have different options when trying my projects, so you’ll be able to easily adapt everything to your needs.

The idea for these DIY Large Gift Tags actually came to me a few days ago while watching one of Tim Holtz’ demos – this one here Demo watercolor, DIY + more. I really love watching Tim get creative, these demos are packed full with so much information! I learnt a lot and I usually pick up so many tips and tricks along the way! I could watch these shows for hours, they give me such a good energy! And can you guess what is the first thing I want to do next? Shopping! I just want to go and buy everything he uses in his demos, of course! :) Anyone can relate? :)

But here comes the problematic side of things! And the frustrations! And the ohs, whys! And then the occasional usage of foul language! :) Why? Because I cannot find many of these products in Romania! We don’t have Amazon here and ordering them from other countries can get quite pricey.There are maybe two or three online shops that sell these types of products in my country and their offer is sometimes quite limited.

So what’s a girl got to do? Make my own! :) Of course I won’t start making my own vintage stamps (wait, I already did that here), inks or oxides (anyone has a recipe?), but some DIY Large Gift Tags? That I can do! :)

I used Photoshop to make the tags and as I mentioned before, I created them in several different sizes, just to have more options when in comes to using them. Both you and me! :)

So here is the free printable for the tags, you can right click on the image and save it on your computer. Then you can use it as you want, the sky is the limit!

You can use any type of cardstock paper you want, just make sure you check your printer to see if you can feed it through without jamming, some thicker paper can be tricky to use at home.

P.S. Please don’t ask me why there is a metallic ruler in the image below. I have no idea why I put it there, because we don’t need one for this project. So please just ignore it completely! :)

If you maybe want to use the tags on a really thick cardstock that won’t go through your printer, you can print the tags on some regular cardstock paper first, cut them using your scissors and then use the printed tags as templates for your thicker cardstock.

I actually did that here.

1. I printed the tags on regular cardstock paper (120 gsm) and I used my scissors to remove the excess white paper following the outside printed border of each tag. You can leave the black border in if you are planning to use the tags as templates, this way it will be easier to identify them afterwards.
2. I used a hole puncher to make some small holes in my templates.
3. Then I used a pencil to trace both the tags shape and the small punched holes on my thicker cardstock paper (300 gsm). I used my scissors to remove the excess paper from the actual tags – this time I cut them inside their border, so I won’t have any pencil marks on the edges of my final tags. When it comes to actually punching holes on your final tags following the traced pencil circle, I decided not do that to all my tags before using them, I would like to still be able to take that decision at the very end, after decorating the tags.

You can choose cardstock in any color you want for your tags, I made a few whites and a few cream ones. The white cardstock was actually some old scrap piece of cardstock I had around that wasn’t perfectly flat, but I didn’t mind the small imperfections, sometimes they can add so much character to your projects, especially when going for an aged, vintage look. I loved them all! :)

You can use your new DIY Large Gift Tags as tags … obviously :) You can beautifully embellish them for gifts for family and friends, send them as thank you notes for your clients, if you have an online or a psychical shop, put them inside gorgeous flower bouquets with some handwritten wishes or thoughts, there are so many options here!

You can also integrate them into your DIY and craft projects, hang them as beautiful home decor pieces in your home, add them to art journals, junk journals, planners, pretty much all your creative adventures! :) I already used them in a few of my projects – that I will be sharing soon – that would make even Tim Holtz proud! Ha ha! :)
