With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share with you today how to make a ‘When I tell you I love you’ sign!

I used a 20 x 40 cm / 8” x 15” MDF board but you can use any other pieces of wood you have on hand.
As always, I painted the MDF board with black acrylic paint (you can paint the whole surface or just the edges), rubbed some candle wax on the edges and then applied two coats of white acrylic paint. After the final coat of paint was completely dry, I distressed the edges using a 120 sand grit paper.

Of course you can use black and white paint like I did, or you can choose your favorite two contrasting colors.
If you want to see more details (and pictures) on how to paint and distress, I followed the same steps from here:

The best part is that you can use this technique on almost any surface!
And to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, I’m sharing with you the printable I used to make this sign! My Valentine gift to you! :)
You can just click HERE to download it.
As you will see, I compacted the text a little bit so that the format will allow you to print it on your printer at home!
After you buy some decals, of course! :) You will only need one piece of decal paper to make the sign, just make sure you cut the paper with the text in several smaller pieces and gradually apply them so you can adjust the heights and spaces of your text sign.
You know how much I love decals, right? I use them to transfer everything! :) You can learn here all about waterslide decal paper transfers.
Protect the ‘When I tell you I love you’ sign with a matte sealer and let it dry.
You’re done!
The perfect romantic handmade gift for Valentine’s day, just make sure you don’t forget to roses! :)
