Learn how to easily make these DIY Vintage French Collage Paper tags using distress ink and a few other mixed media techniques. The free printables are included, the collages come in several different sizes and are simply perfect for all your creative needs!
Hello, creative friends! Today’s project is one of those projects that you really just NEED to try! These Vintage French Collage Paper Tags that I created for you can be personalized and adapted to all your creative adventures, experiments and everything else that you can think of! :) While designing the collage I included many of the beautiful elements that I love – chic French ephemera images, stamps, vintage keys, arrows, ticket numbers and lovely flowers. And bees! Beautiful, lovely bees that kind of completed the overall look of my collage, adding even more charm.
I love giving you different options when designing my printables, so you will see that this collage printable comes in different sizes. It would be best (and easier) to print them all and keep them close by for when you feel like doing something creative. It can be a 5-minute break or a few good hours of crafting, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of uses for these beauties. I will show you how to make tags today using one of the free templates that I shared here – DIY Large Gift Tags, but feel free to cut other shapes too!
This was actually my first time using the Tim Holtz distress inks on a project and I instantly fell in love with them! Now I can say that these are definitely a must on one’s creative list, they are absolutely amazing! Distress inks are hard to find in my country and can get quite pricey if ordered from Amazon, but they are really worth it!
I bought a few mini distress inks (will link the colors I used below), a mini blending tool and a few flat and a few domed foams. I played with these new tools a little and discovered I really love the domed foams both for blending the inks and distressing the edges! I’m really curious – which one do you prefer? Are you on the flat foam or domed foam side of things? :)
I had so much fun creating the collage paper, but also distressing and embellishing the tags!
I was really happy with how my Vintage French Collage Paper Tags turned out!
mixed media cardstock | laserjet printer | scissors
Tim Holtz’s mini distress inks
I used scattered straw, picked raspberry, peacock feathers and dusty concord to color the tags
I used tea dye and walnut stain to distress the edges
mini blending tool with domed foams
(I actually bought the blending tool and the domed foams from Ali Express, they are much more affordable, if you don’t mind the waiting)
gold acrylic paint| small plates | small brush | craft sponge |
I’m naming the rulers that I included in the collage ‘quirky rulers’, because I mixed two separate elements to create them! One of them might be a thermometer! :)
You can choose all sorts of color mixes for these beauties, they will look amazing with every color that you can think of! ;) Don’t you just love how the distress ink colors are perfectly blending together?! I bet they will also look great with watercolors, highly diluted acrylic paint or natural dyes (these are for fabric, but can be used on paper too). Or how about some of this faux rust, how gorgeous would they look? :)
Here is a little before and after, it’s always good to know where was our starting point. Not too bad, right?! :)
