“Add a little bit of chicness to your home with this inexpensive project – learn how to make the most amazing DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles”
Hello my friends, hope you are doing well and you’re having an exceptional week! :)
It has been a while since my last post (again), I guess now I’m officially way behind with everything blogging. Yup, that’s me! The one that LOVES sharing all kind of beautiful projects with you but cannot seem to find the time to do that. Life is still pretty busy around here and even though I have some amazing projects and recipes waiting, I’m only dreaming of the days when I’ll be able to post on a regular basis. Let’s just hope I’m getting there someday! ;)
For today I have another beautiful project that involves (more) jars … and some bottles – a DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles that I’m sure you’ll love as much as I do.
Maybe you’re thinking I’m obsessed with jars … and you know what? You might be on to something! :) But I can’t help it, I think you can never have too many decorative jars and bottles around your home.
Especially ones that can be easily beautified with some labels and can be paired with delicate roses from your garden! Such a quick and lovely way to add a little bit of inexpensive charm to your home, don’t you think?
They can be versatile, trust me. And beautiful. And practical. And tres chic! :) Did I mentioned BEAUTIFUL? :)
DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles
MATERIALS NEEDED
The first thing you’ll need to make this project? Some gorgeous vintage labels from The Graphics Fairy, of course!
You know how I love The Graphics Fairy, so I made a selection of some of the most amazing vintage graphics I could find there. And guess what? … They were all French! :) Old perfume and soap labels in different colors, old ads and some beautiful roses and flowers that accentuate the all vintage look. You will find a link to the end of the post to download them for free!
Then you’ll need all the jars and bottles in different shapes and sizes that you can find! I used some with corks, to enhance the whole apothecary idea, but also some simple recycled jars, so you can use whatever you have around!
My jars also had some pretty wooden spoons, here are a few afflink* where you can (click on the pictures and) buy something similar:
INSTRUCTIONS
Use a brush and some Mod Podge to adhere the back of the labels to the jars and bottles.
The labels have different sizes and they will perfectly match any needs… or any jars and bottles! :)
Use some highly diluted brown acrylic paint to distress some of the labels and to emphasize the vintage look that we are going for.
Apply the diluted paint here and there to create an uneven pattern.
You can see below an example – on the right there is a simple, non distressed label and on the left a vintage-ish label that I distressed with a little bit of brown acrylic paint.
Did you know that you can also use strong tea or coffee to give paper a nice worn look? They all work great, just use whatever you have on hand.
Here are the both labels with a beautiful brown paint patina. You can choose to distress them more or less, depending on your own liking.
If you want to waterproof your labels, you can find a tutorial on how to do that here.
I strongly recommend this step, especially if you plan to use your DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles as vases or other small recipients that might get in contact with water or will be used in humid air.
There are endless possibilities when using or re-using your new beautiful DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles.
You can easily create amazing seasonal vignettes and decorate different places all around your home.
Not to mention the exceptional gifts that you can turn them into!
Beside their obvious decorative role, the corks are a great addition and can be of great help, especially if you plan on using the jars and bottles for storage.
I have a thing for homemade bath and beauty products lately and I might have one or two projects for you that involve some amazing scrubs, bath salts and some scrumptious body butters, so stay tuned! :)
Hope you like my DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles project and decide to give it a try. You can start right now or pin it for later! :)
