Learn how to quickly make these gorgeous DIY Vintage Birds Cards using metallic paints! Metallic paints always create such amazing effects, so why not use them here to give the cards some chic shimmering touches?
Hello creative friends! It’s time to get creative once again with these quick and easy cards, which are just perfect for welcoming the New Year! Or maybe welcoming new beginnings?
The cards come with a free printable, you’ll just need to save and print these on your laserjet printer! I created the design using these amazing birds from The Graphics Fairy, a vintage clock face that shows 12 o’clock and some white flowers with sepia leaves that complete this whole vintage look in such a chic way!
Metallic paints are some of my favorites, I usually love using them to create some golden accents here and there. This time I’ve actually used them diluted with water to create this cool vintage watercolor effect!
I’m really happy with how they turned out! The best part is that you don’t actually need any special skills, you can just let the gold paint and the water ‘dance’ together on your paper to create these perfectly imperfect highlights and effects!
Can you guess what type of metallic paints I’ve used for this project?
What if I told you they are actually somewhere between watercolors and acrylic paints? Or that they are more opaque than watercolors and less opaque than acrylic paints? Any ideas? :)
Well, you’ve guessed it right if gouache paints instantly came to your mind! Yes, the paints that I’m talking about are metallic gouaches! :) They are pretty amazing and can be used on top of a laserjet printed design, without obstructing the details. You’ll need to dilute with water, but the final results are absolutely stunning! Make sure you click the link at the end of this post that will take you to the step-by-step tutorial on The Graphics Fairy, I’m sharing all the details for making these beauties over there.
You can gift the DIY Vintage Birds Cards with a small golden bookmark, these bookmarks are quite inexpensive and will add so much charm to any gift! And of course, you can use these beauties on other projects too or gift them on other special occasions, just replace the New Year wishes with a more appropriate sentiment and you are good to go!
