Vintage Watercolor Christmas Tags – learn how to make these lovely tags for Christmas using watercolors in earthy tones to create a distressed effect and nail polish to create a raised 3D effect. Use metallic gold string to finish the whole look in a chic way!
Hello, creative friends! I’m sure you will agree with me that time has a mind of its own during the holidays … so we already know for a fact that Christmas will be here in a blink of an eye! :) Just to help you get prepared, I’m sharing with you today these lovely Vintage Watercolor Christmas Tags. These beauties are easy to make and will bring a super chic pop of color to your presents or any other Christmas-related projects.
The tags are perfect for bringing that classic Christmas vibe on their own but can be further embellished to your own liking. I decided to use watercolors to add even more of that vintage-y charm that we all love, but you can also use coffee or tea to stain them, even highly diluted acrylic paint, if that is what you have on hand. Oxide inks and distress inks or sprays will also work.
I used earthy tones like Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre to add these lovely watercolor accents, but you can choose any other colors!
To make things more interesting I even included a few holly berries as separate images, so you can easily cut and glue them on top of the tags. To create more depth and to add a little bit of a 3D raised effect to the tags, I decided to use … gold and red nail polish! I know, nail polish is not quite a traditional craft supply, but I love including surprising elements into my projects. Don’t you? :)
They say it’s all about the small details, so as a final element I went with gold metallic string. If you would prefer to use the tags like bookmarks, you can skip this step.
You can use the Vintage Watercolor Christmas Tags to embellish all your Christmas gifts this year, but you can also include them in other Christmas-related projects or activities. Use them as bookmarks while decompressing reading your favorite books, hang them in your Christmas tree, add them to your journals, there are so many ways of getting creative with these!
And if you love using untraditional craft supplies like me, I also used nail polish to give these -> DIY Gold Nail Polish Vintage Keys a quick makeover. I love using these small keys as chic props while photographing my projects for you, but you can also add them as embellishments in other creative projects.
You will see that nail polish not only looks beautiful but will also create a super chic enamel effect!
