I’m starting my ”5 minute breaks” again, especially now that the wedding season is in full swing and we are working around the clock on many beautiful handmade decorations. I generically name the breaks the ”5 minute breaks” but I feel that sometimes I really need at least 20-30 minutes to fully decompress and start working again at full speed. I usually read a few pages from a book, look through my favorite magazines or just relax in the garden with a refreshing cold drink. If you are also finding ways to relax, my selection of 100 Coloring pages could also help to clear your head, but you could do whatever you feel works for you for a little unwinding. Of course you could try to include at least once this refreshing Strawberry Mojito smoothie in your breaks and I’m sure you’ll get completely hooked! :)
I developed quite a habit of rediscovering different types of fruits or veggies from time to time… and getting obsessed about them in now time :) For example, last summer I rediscovered spinach and tried a lot of spinach combinations that I really loved. I mean A LOT. Weird. I know. But I can’t help it! :)
This summer I’m rediscovering fresh mint and lime and I’m (again) loving and obsessively adding them to my food. And I’m naming everything Mojito, because everything that contains these two ingredients qualifies as a Mojito, right? :)
But these two amazing ingredients are also super healthy and have so many incredible benefits!
- mint (also know as mentha) is refreshing and will help combat stress, digestion problems, allergies, pain, oral infections and many more. Mint is packed with antioxidants and lots of nutrients and will give your immune system a boost when consumed on a regular basis.
- lime (also known as Citrus Aurantifolia) is a great source of vitamin C, which is vital for a strong immune system.
Not to mention strawberries which are such a great source of copper, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium,omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.
- 1 cup almond milk
- the zest of 1/2 lime
- the juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 4-5 fresh mint leaves
- For garnish: fresh mint leaves, lime slices or strawberry slices
- Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
- Garnish your smoothie with more fresh mint leaves, lime slices or strawberries.
- Enjoy on a 5 minutes break or on a regular basis! :)
So this Strawberry Mojito smoothie is a winner when it comes to taste, nutrition and health benefits and I’m sure you’ll love it too! :)
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- A high speed blender will make a huge difference when processing frozen ingredients. I used the Optimum 9200A from Froothie, a super powerful blender (more powerful than a Vitamix) that I absolutely LOVE. You can read my review and the 10 things you didn’t know a high speed blender can do and even get a discount if you decide to purchase one of this amazing and powerful blenders!
- If you don’t have a high speed blender, let the frozen strawberries sit for a while before blending them.
- You can even freeze almond milk in ice cubes trays and use them in smoothies whenever you want.
- To gain time, prepare ziploc bags that contains all the fruits / veggies from your favorite smoothies and freeze them ahead of time. Remove from freezer, add milk, blend them and you’ll get to enjoy your favorite smoothies in no time!
- Make sure you wash your fruits really well, before using them. Use plenty of water, and even some vinegar when washing the limes.
