Try this creamy and frothy Golden Milk Turmeric Latte today, a comforting drink made with turmeric paste and coconut oil, with anti inflammatory and healing properties, a generous layer of froth (that you will be tempted to eat by the spoon) and an amazing taste!
It looks like summer is finally here to stay, can you believe it? I feel like I've been waiting for ages to say these few magic words in one sentence! But now I can just say it out loud and enjoy every single word of it! SUMMER IS HERE TO STAY ! Yuhuuu! ... Sorry for all caps, but I'm that happy! :)
Things have been a little bit crazy around here (again) as we are now in full process of selling our house and moving. While I'm writing this, I'm surrounded by boxes, with all our stuff and I'm amazed by how our lives can fit in such small cardboard boxes! :) And how priorities can shift in a matter of weeks or even days. The feeling of making such major changes is quite overwhelming, but I'm more than optimistic about the good things our future will hold! I'll tell you more about the whole process and why we decided to sell our house in a future post, let's just say that these last months were quite an adventure!
And after my last Earl Grey Tea Latte (London Fog) obsession, this creamy and dreamy golden milk turmeric latte came to the rescue... big time! As you can see, I'm still obsessing over holding on to my lattes! :)
Let me tell you a little bit about my first encounter with turmeric. I discovered its amazing benefits a couple of years ago, while searching for healthy beauty products that you can DIY on Pinterest. I learned that this spice has been used in India for centuries because of it's incredible healing properties and the people there call it 'the spice of life' or 'holy powder'. For beauty purposes, brides in India are using a special turmeric face mask the day before their weddings, so they can have a perfect and glowing skin on their special day.
I was intrigued so I decided to go ahead and order some turmeric powder the very next day. After using it, I was surprised by how good this stuff was for my skin and I loved how fresh and bright my face felt and looked! After searching for some more beauty recipes on Pinterest, I discovered that you can also add turmeric to your food! My curiosity for trying new things kicked in again and when I made my first golden milk ... I think I could say that right then I irremediably fell in love with turmeric! Foreva'! :)
Turmeric is considered a superfood and it's main active ingredient is called curcuma. It's a powerful anti inflammatory, anti microbial and antioxidant, it can help you while detoxifying, it lowers the risk of heart diseases, it can help you fight fatigue, stress, depression, type 2 diabetes and even cancer. It's perfect for fighting colds or sore throats and is considered to be a natural and powerful antibiotic. Not to mention that it simply makes wonders when used in beauty products or when treating different skin issues.
So my recipe today is not only an incredibly delicious, frothy, creamy and dreamy golden milk turmeric latte, but an elixir that will give the most stunning results for your health in general, when used regularly.
And to be honest, even the color of this creamy and frothy golden milk turmeric latte feels therapeutic because it somehow manages to always put me in a good mood!
A little bit of sunshine in my own cup of latte? Yes please!:)
It's perfect for unwinding and taking a few minutes any time of the day!
To make this too-good-to-be-true drink you will need to make a turmeric paste first. You will need to add other two ingredients that will help activate and boost turmeric's super powers so that it can be fully absorbed by our bodies - coconut oil (healthy fats) and black pepper (that contains peperine). Make sure you don't skip these two, without them you will only have a delicious drink but not an anti inflammatory healing elixir.
You could also add some ginger, but this step is totally optional. The ginger will add a nice touch to your golden milk turmeric latte and it will also help on the anti inflammatory department.
You can also check 10 things you didn't know a high speed blender can do for more inspiration, because, yes, you will need a blender to create a generous layer of frothy goodness.
A layer that you will be tempted to eat by the spoon! :) Which is exactly what you should do if you feel like it! :)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- 1 extra large tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of Turmeric Golden paste
- 1 cup milk of choice
- sweetener - to taste
- ginger - optional
- Add the water and turmeric in a small saucepan and bring over a medium heat.
- Stir continuously for 6-8 minutes until a thick paste forms. If you feel like the paste is too thick or dry, add a little bit more water, if it's too watery add a little bit more turmeric powder.
- Add the black pepper and the coconut oil and stir again until completely mixed in.
- Remove from heat and let cool, then add in a small jar with a lid and keep in the fridge - it will last for up to two weeks.
- You can add it to curries, smoothies, fried rice (recipe to come soon), warm soups, teas or golden milk turmeric lattes. Use it regularly, so you can benefit as much as possible from its amazing properties.
- Bring 1 cup of milk to a light boil over medium heat and add 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of turmeric paste. Stir until fully incorporated and the milk is hot.
- Remove from heat and pour it in your blender (make sure your blender can handle high temperatures).
- Blend for up to a minute or until you see a generous layer of froth forming on top (a high speed blender will do that in 30-45 seconds or less).
- Pour in your favorite cup and enjoy this magic elixir while warm (or hot), on a regular basis.
Be careful when using turmeric though, it stains like crazy! :)
Use your favorite cups or mugs, decorated with French decals and you are in for a real treat! :)
