Epsom salt & lavender detox bath soak with amazing therapeutic and relaxing properties, perfect for all those times when you feel like unwinding after long stressful days
With all the stressful situations life throws at us on a regular basis, finding ways to decompress after long crazy days, should be on top of our priorities. Because we don’t always get the luxury of booking a pampering day at the SPA or paying for a long relaxing massage, an Epsom salt & lavender detox bath soak can be a great alternative when trying to unwind.
Until a few years ago, Epsom salt was really hard to find in my country so I could only dream about making this type of recipes. I remember finding on Pinterest and saving tons of ideas that required Epsom salt, and I just couldn’t find it anywhere! But when Epsom salt became available around here, I was finally able to experiment. And I did! :)
This Epsom salt & lavender detox bath soak rapidly became one of my favorites and I now try to include it in my detoxifying and relaxing routine at least once or twice a week. Soaking has never felt better! :)
Epsom salt (or magnesium sulfate) is a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, best known for its therapeutic and healing properties. Here are some of its benefits:
- it reduces stress and it helps you relax
- it is quickly absorbed through your skin and it helps detoxifying your body
- it eases etches and pains
- it relaxes sore muscles
- it helps prevent and fight migraine
- it increases your magnesium levels (most people have a magnesium deficiency)
Beside all these incredible healing properties and many other more, Epsom salt can also be used in decorating. I’m sure you have already seen all those amazing Epsom salt jars on Pinterest. If not, don’t worry, I’ll show you how to make some just in time for Christmas:)
So if you ask me, Epsom salt is one of those household items that should always be found in any home. Especially if you are keen on trying homemade alternatives, much more healthier than store bought products.
If you are a regular friend to Dreams Factory (if you aren’t, what are you waiting for? …just subscribe below :) ) you might already know how much I love lavender! I’ve used it before on several projects and is definitely one of my favorite scents in the world! Heck, I’ve even added it in my lattes, so I’m sure you can (somehow) understand how deep this thing goes :)
For this recipe I’ve doubled the lavender intake, if I may say so. I added dried lavender flowers and lavender essential oils, which are known for their anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, detoxifying, antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.
The recipe below will make 1 cup of Epsom salt & lavender detox bath soak, if you are planning to make more, just double or triple the quantities. Store it in a jar with a lid, in a cool, dry place and use it when you feel like relaxing and detoxifying. Add 1 or 2 cups to a regular bath tub, while the hot water is running and soak in for at least 15-20 minutes. You could light up some candles, put on some music (I’m obsessing over Madeleine Peyroux again) and just try to clear your head and relax.
As you can see, today’s recipe is quite simple! You will only need 3 ingredients … and a beautiful vintage French apothecary jar! You can make this recipe ahead of time in larger batches and use it when in need or you can prepare it right before using – it will only take about 5 minutes!
With Christmas just around the corner, you can even make this Epsom salt & lavender detox bath soak for your friends, who will not love such a unique and thoughtful gift!? Pair it with my DIY Rose Petal & Lavender Sugar Scrub,my luxurious whipped body butter or other homemade goodies and you are all set! Just make sure you prepare and have a few vintage French apothecary jars on hand, so you can just fill them just in time for Christmas (or any other special anniversaries or occasions).
- 3/4 cup Epsom salt
- 1/4 cup dried lavender flowers
- 10-20 drops lavender essential oils
- a French apothecary jar with a lid
- Add Epsom salt, dried lavender flowers and lavender essential oils into your jar.
- Use a Popsicle stick to gently mix all the ingredients or close the jar with a lid and shake well until fully combined.
- Store in a cool dry place and use when you feel like decompressing after a long day.

Thank you, so much, Diana! This recipe is not only timely because I plan to use it as a gift, but I just came across and purchased ten big bunches of dried lavender for $2/bunch at my local grocery the other day (where I’ve never seen it before), and aside from displaying some, I’ve been trying to decide what to do with it all. Now, I have the perfect solution, thanks to you!!!

What a fabulous project Diana and perfect for Christmas gifts at this time of year. I love a big dose of Epsom salts in the bath when I have time for a soak.
Thank you for linking up at Create, Bake, Grow & Gather this week. I’m delighted to be featuring this project at tonight’s party and pinning too!
Merry Christmas x
Deborah
So inspirational! You are so generous, sharing your beautiful and clever ideas. Thankyou so much. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I love this and have all of the ingredients except the lavender plants. If you put this in the bath, will the lavender be left over in the tub as everything else dissolves but them? Thanks for helping me. Sally

This is a wonderful remedy, will be making some of this after Christmas when I get some money to buy lavender oil, the lavender flowers and Epsom salts. This sounds so good for a persons mental health as well as relaxation, something everybody needs.
We got paid 1 day before Thanksgiving but won’t get paid again until 2 days after Christmas. Long hard 5 weeks at a stressful expensive time of year.
I also deal with stress daily with my husband due to effects from a stroke he had in 2010. His disposition is deteriorating and difficult to deal with daily. I suffer from depression and anxiety along with losing my hearing and my husbands inability to deal with it, he becomes quite abusive on a daily basis which makes my life quite unpleasant.
As you can understand I need to find ways to deal with constant stress, can feel myself getting more agitated every day, unable to deal with the mental and emotional abuse.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful antidote to stress and the way to make the antidote with the labels you shared. I collect bottles and jars never knowing when they might be useful. When I go to thrift stores am always on look out for interesting jars/bottles.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend

Hi… Love your recipes–especially the one for the Epsom Salt & Lavender Detox Bath Soak.
However, the recipe calls for 3/4 cu Epsom salt,, etc. And the servings call for 1 cup!!
I think something has to be adjusted, don’t you think?
Thank you.
Dee
