Ever wanted to try making an Earl Grey Tea Latte (London Fog) at home? You will only need a few ingredients and a blender to make the most delicious latte EVER. Be prepared to be amazed, one secret ingredient will get you completely hooked! :)
Even though I normally love winter, this (almost) soon to be over season was definitely not my friend. The temperatures dropped way too much for my tastes and we barely see any sun rays for weeks. This type of weather kind of gets me down and beside working, I had to fill my time with things I really love. And lots and lots of hot drinks … just to make sure I would survive this winter in one piece.
This Earl Grey Tea Latte aka London Fog was a life saver!
I had this bag of Whittard Chelsea – Earl Grey Tea that some of our friends brought to us from London a while ago, that sat on one of our shelves in the kitchen. It just sat there unopened. Why? Because I really loved its package :) I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true! It had a beautiful vintage-ish box that looked almost too pretty to be opened and a silver plated infuser that I absolutely adored!
For those of you who don’t know, what makes the Earl Grey Tea so amazing is the bergamot oil that is used to flavor this tea to perfection. Bergamot is a fragrant citrus fruit that has the color of lemon/lime but it has the shape of an orange. How cool is that? :)
My beautiful box of Earl Grey only had black leaf tea scented with bergamot, but this type of tea usually contains a blend of different varieties. Because of its distinctive scent, the Earl Grey Tea is perfect for using in cakes and other yummy recipes, but it also has many benefits for our health. As I found online, Earl Grey Tea is rich in antioxidants so it can help fight cancer or other diseases. It aids digestion and it can help you loose weight. It can boost energy levels and even fight stress, anxiety and depression. It contains a large quantity of potassium that will keep us hydrated (unlike coffee that dehydrates the body).
I’m always curious about trying new things and this recipe somehow caught my eye.
Truth be told, everything that has ‘latte’ in it kind of intrigues me…
And when I discovered that you can also add lavender to this Earl Grey Tea Latte (London Fog), now heavenly mixture, I knew I had to open my box as soon as possible!
And yes, lavender is the secret ingredient I’m adding to this amazing latte! :) One that will also add a French twist to the whole concept and will make it even more fragrant and savory.
You already know how much I love lavender and how I love to use it all around our home, in so many different ways (dried lavender flowers as a natural diffuser for essential oils, DIY beauty products, scented candles or scented clay hearts, scented eggshell candles for Easter etc.) I had some dried lavender buds from our garden from last summer and I couldn’t wait to give this recipe a try.
So this Earl Grey Tea Latte (London Fog) was my choice for one cold winter day.
Of course I couldn’t have done it without my blender Optimum 9200A from Froothie (the one with super powers), who turned everything into a creamy and frothy comforting delight. You could also use a milk frother, but ever since I’ve had this amazing blender, it kind of did the jobs of many other kitchen gadgets.
P.S. Last week I’ve learned how to make an animated GIF in Photoshop, just check this cool tutorial if you want to try it yourself :)
The taste is totally surprising! In the most amazing and delicious kind of way :)
It’s incredibly intense and fragrant, nothing like I ever tasted before.
It was so good, it even brought a little bit of sunshine … and I was able to take some photos for you!:)

Oh my gosh!, this post is perfectly timed. I was in the UK this past August and bought the exact same packaging of tea (only mine is afternoon tea) with the same silver plate infuser attached at the Whittard shop. Mine too has just been sitting in my pantry but now I’m going to try this recipe out and hope that it is just as good with afternoon tea as it is with the earl grey. Thanks for sharing!!

Kim, what a lovely coincidence! :)
Hope you will give your version a try and tell me your insights on the afternoon tea flavors.

Okay, I have to admit Diana, I came back to your lovely recipe three times because your photos are soooooo gorgeous. Third time lucky and I actually read the tea latte recipe and it sounds like the perfect pick me up for those dreary Winter day.

Kerryanne, you definitely have to try this, lavender is such an unexpected, but amazing addition!
Now I’m thinking about maybe making some lavender cookies to perfectly match this! :)
Hope you have a sunny week!
Dani
When do you add the vanilla? Just before frothing or before steeping?

I am an immense hot tea consumer. I don’t drink espresso by any stretch of the imagination, yet I don’t go a day without 1 some hot tea. Furthermore, I am passing on to attempt this formula shared by Diana at Dreams Factory!

Thanks for sharing the recipe and the secret ingredient! These days my afternoons are occupied with tea experiments. I’m trying to come up with different tea combinations and it fun. I was a coffee lover but now I’m more like a tea addict and complete credit goes to my friends who have been asking me to make the switch. My favorite tea brand is Halmari; perfect for my taste buds.

Happy you like this recipe, Lizzy!
I’m so with you when it comes to experimenting with different types of tea combinations!
I personally love Tulsi tea (holy basil) latte with ginger lately, have you tried this? :)
And kudos to your friend for helping you make the switch to tea and reduce your caffeine intake, they are such good friends! :)

It was DIVINE!! Thank you for the recipe!! Can you
share who makes the cup you’ve shown? I’d
love to purchase a couple!! Thank you!!

Happy you liked the recipe, Patricia!
I believe the mug is called a Jumbo mug, because of its larger size, here is something similar to mine: https://amzn.to/2n2GQP6.
