Hello, friends! I know I’ve been missing in action lately, but you know what they say … life happens while you’re busy making other plans :) Actually I think it was John Lennon saying that in one of his songs , but I have a feeling you can all relate to this … that point in your life when things are just crazy on so many different levels that you feel like you need another YOU to get everything done in time! :)
So my blogging plans got a little bit postponed, but I’m back now with another chic DIY project for you!
DIY French Honeycomb Coasters
Today we are making some fabulous DIY French Honeycomb Gold Coasters that I’m hoping you will absolutely LOVE! I mean, what’s not to love here, right? :) These beauties incorporate some amazing French ephemera and a plethora of honeycomb-y (is that even a word?) images from the Graphics Fairy that will give the coasters a refreshing spring or summer feel.
As always, the images are available for free download so you can make this project too! To make them look even more realistic, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some honey … or at least something similar to honey (because otherwise things might have gotten a little bit messy :) So I used gold acrylic paint on the edges so they would look like they’ve been ‘dipped’ in honey ;) Yum! ;)
DIY French Honeycomb Coasters
For creating the DIY French Honeycomb Gold Coasters you will have to cut the hexagon shapes first (I will also share a template for that). I asked Mr. Dreamy to help me with this part because me and power tools are not really best friends :) We used MDF (1,2 cm thick) but you can also use HDF or scrap wood pieces that have a smooth surface.
Then comes the fun part … a little bit of faux painting and distressing! And by little I really mean little, you won’t believe how quick this technique is!
For decorating the coasters with the lovely graphics I used again my easy and foolproof method of decorating an object using waterslide decal paper.

I have to tell you that the DIY French Honeycomb Gold Coasters might just make it to the top 3 of some of my all time favorite DIY projects. I keep them in the living room on our coffee table and truth be told, I sometimes find myself admiring them! How crazy is that? :)
And to be completely honest, I sometimes even play with them! I arrange them in different positions just like a honeycomb puzzle … and I find this quite relaxing :)

These coasters are lovely. Being a hexagon shape is just perfect for bee images.
