DIY Delicate Paper Hydrangeas and a 5 minute French pitcher revamp

I’m so happy spring has finally claimed it’s rights, we had some amazing sunny days around here. Sunny and lazy, because I just can’t get enough of all this beautiful nature coming to life day by day and I even started to dream about summer! I guess that’s one of the advantages of working at home, you can do both the working and daydreamin’/gazing at the sun … in your own terms!:)

Ever since I have discovered Lia Griffith’s amazing paper projects I fell in love with her hydrangeas and I knew I had to make some of my own. So I started this project in a lovely sunny spring day when I decided to move my working area outside, in the garden. Best decision ever! :)

For this project you will need the amazing hydrangea petals and leaves shapes that Lia Griffith designed. You can download the files from her site.
You will also need a Silhouette Cameo, a special cutting machine that will work it’s magic while you can do a little bit of daydreamin’ yourself :) If don’t have a cutting machine, I guess you could cut the paper by hand, but it will take like forever, because for every hydrangea flower you will need around 60-90 petals. Of course you could always ask a friend with a Silhouette to cut them for you, like I did! :) So thank you my dear Cadouri Fistichii for cutting hundreds of textured cardstock petals and leaves for me ♥

You will also need brushes and some acrylic paint if you plan to paint the paper petals and leaves. I did paint them with lovely shades of pale and dark lilac – I use Maimeri acrylic paints for almost all of my projects, I highly recommend them.
And a hot glue gun, some floral wire, floral tape (or regular paper tape that you can paint green) and … a lot of patience! :)

DIY Delicate Paper Hydrangeas

First I painted the white petals with different shades of pale and dark lilac adding a little bit of paint here and there.

Here you can see the different shades of contrasting lilac better. Lovely, right? :)

I made the stem structure for one hydrangea using 30 pieces of cut floral wire with a 30 cm length and taped them together with regular paper tape leaving 7-8 cm on the top. I bended the pieces of wire from the top of stem to create a dome, following Lia Griffith’s instructions.

I put them in a lovely white porcelain pitcher  I found on sales and it was love at first sight! :) I bought the pitcher from an online shop from my country, but if  you are going for the same romantic look, here are some lovely pitchers I found on Amazon*.
