You know spring is here to stay when your house smells amazing from all that lilac your next door neighbors just gave you! And the sun rays are warm and gentle. And your house is brighter and it even looks … happier :)A while ago I mentioned (and shared with you) a list of my favorite neutral decor items that I collected or made on the blog during the years and now use all around our home. I just adapt, move around and reinvent them every time a new season comes in. Most of them are usual items that you can find in your home on a regular basis like different sized jars, vases, old books, tins or terracotta pots to which I added a little bit of chicness by painting them with two contrasting colors and gave them a beautiful Shabby Chic look. To mostly of them I even added a little bit of extra chicness by decorating them with French graphics to give them an oh-la-la French twist :)
Remember how I encouraged you to make a set of neutral decor items for your own home? Well, I hope you did, because DIY decorating with neutrals on a budget cannot get any easier! Especially now, with all the beautiful blooms popping in everywhere, I’m telling you, these DIY decor items will come very handy!
You can use painted and distress Shabby books, a beautiful white pitcher that you can Frenchify in 5 minutes (here you can find some similar beautiful white pitchers*), your favorite angel statue (mine is a gift from my sister), some Ikea candle holders that you can paint and Shabbify (and love like crazy), a little bit of white fabric to add some texture, a scented soy candle in a French coffee cup and some AH-MAZING lilac flowers with a stunning perfume.
This is just an idea, but you can also use a vintage enamel milk jug, some French Made painted jars or some Ikea vases for fresh flowers. Adapt them to your needs and reinvent them as you wish, once you have your own set of neutral decorations, the possibilities are just endless.
I won’t mention the satisfaction you get when creating something on your own or transforming an old objects and giving it a new life. Or the fact that you can beautify all your home and adapt these decor items to all your rooms just the way you want. Or the fact that you can also make some inexpensive but amazing looking gifts for all your friends and family … don’t forget, Mother’s Day is just around the corner! No, I won’t mention any of these … :)
I will only say that you won’t have to spend a small fortune on decorating every time a new season settles in and now you should get to work and make some lovely neutral decorations for your home! :)

I love the way you are able to show us how effective it is to decorate this way…you’ve inspired me to begin making over many of my old pieces so that they all share similar finishes. I’m enjoying the process, and am looking forward to creating a home that can change with the seasons with just a few touches here and there. Thank you, Diana, for sharing your knowledge and inspiration with us!
