DIY 5 Minute Christmas Candles – learn how to easily decorate simple regular candles and turn them into beautiful Christmas candles for your home decor in just 5 minutes!
Hello, friends! With Christmas literally just around the corner, I’m keeping everything simple today, because I’m sure you all have oh-so-many things you NEED to get ready … before Santa comes knocking on our doors :)
P.S. That would be great … by the way! :)
It has been a busy and stressful period of time and I feel like I need some well deserved rest. I don’t feel like doing pretty much anything for Christmas, except cuddling in warm blankets and sipping teas or lattes all day long! OK, maybe some Netflix binge-watch too :) Do you have any suggestions here? Have you watched something worth mentioning lately?
I’ve decided to keep things simple when it comes to our home decor this Christmas too, so I’m just adding small bits of magic here and there. We bought a potted Christmas tree about three years ago and we usually bring it indoors for Christmas. It’s about 1,5 m (60 inches) tall and it’s super cute! It has practically become a member of our family, we just love it! :)
As a side note – tree cutting is a serious problem in my country so me and Mr. Dreamy try to be more aware of the things happening around us. According to good old Google, it takes on an average of 7 and up to 15 years (!!) to grow a tree of typical height. It’s so sad to see all those once living trees just ending up in the trash after Christmas, don’t you think? We are so fortunate to live on the countryside and to have the opportunity of keeping a living Christmas tree around!
OK, back to today’s project! :)
DIY 5 Minute Christmas Candles
This project is super easy to make and you will only need 4 things:
- wax candles (preferably pillar candles)
- vintage Christmas images printed on cardstock paper
- Mod Podge
- a brush
I already had a few smaller images from my DIY Vintage Gold Christmas Gift Tags (<<< click to check the project and download the images) from a few weeks ago, so I just brushed some Mod Podge on their backs and carefully glued them to the candles.
I removed the air bubbles starting from the middle of the images and then going towards the outside, using my fingers from one hand, while holding the image on the candle with my other hand.
TIP: If you applied too much Mod Podge that is now dripping all over your candle, use a small paper towel and a little bit of water to clean all the residue glue from outside the image. Try not to touch the image itself or the water might ruin it’s margins.
And believe me, letting the Mod Podge dry will be the hardest part of this project! I couldn’t wait to lit this beauty! :)
I really loved how this vibrant vintage Christmasy image instantly brought a plain candle to life! Now it can be used as a decorative piece on its own or with other decorative items, the choice is all up to you!
As mentioned before, pillar candles are best if used with this project, so there won’t be any problems with your lovely image catching fire. And try not to leave your candles unattended anyway, we don’t want any incidents happening on Christmas!
We just want joy and safe glowing candle lights! :)
You can also use the same method to decorate simple or scented glass candles (I bought mines from Ikea).
Because there is no such thing as too many candles … especially for Christmas! :)
So that’s it for today, a fun and easy DIY 5 Minute Christmas Candles project that will hopefully bring a little bit of theChristmas spirit to your home!
Don’t forget to pin for later and share it with your friends! ↷
I have a few other projects ready for you (even one that might involve some glowing Christmas stars and a little bit of gold) … so stay tuned for more! :)
