As for the decorating part, that’s kind of obvious, I guess :) Just make sure you use your imagination and get creative on this. Choose some pretty French metal pots, like I did or any other recipients you have around your home – lovely tea cups, decorated tins or many others.
What you’ll need to grow wheatgrass
– wheat seeds* also known as wheat berries {I buy mine from the local farmer’s market, but you can also find organic wheat seeds* here}
– a colander
– water
– spray bottle* for watering (optional)
How to grow wheatgrass
Day 2: Drain out the water and place the seeds in a colander. Rinse them well 3-4 times a day.
Day 4: Rinse them two times a day with plenty of water and in the evening, plant them.
If your recipient is tall and doesn’t have any drainage, half fill it with small pebbles and half with potting soil. Place the sprouted seeds on top of the soil.
And watch the beautiful wheatgrass come to life! :)
Days 8-10
Days 11-13
Pretty amazing, right? And so easy!
Using wheatgrass for decorating couldn’t be easier! Make your own French pots by adding to regular metal pots some decals with beautiful French ephemera {learn all about decals here} and just arrange them around your home. I’m sure they will look lovely anywhere you’ll put them!
You can also create special vignettes, table settings for Easter and so many more! You can use some Shabby decorative painted books {learn how to make them here}, your favorite vintage angel statue, a flower wreath and an empty Shabby Chic frame and bring a little bit of spring charm in any room.
You can also involve your little ones in the planting and growing process. Let them draw moody faces {happy, sad, angry, loving} on regular terracotta pots or other recipients, show them how to plant the wheatgrass seeds and watch together the terracotta pots/faces growing some wheatgrass hair in just a few days. I’m sure they’ll love it! :)
Tips & tricks on how to grow wheatgrass
To get a beautiful healthy wheatgrass, place the pot in a not too sunny but well ventilated area, or even take it outside if the weather is fine.
Using a spray bottle to water the wheatgrass is preferable. Keep it wet but don’t get overboard with it, because wheatgrass tends to easily form mold if too wet. If the mold does form, just cut the grass above it when harvesting.
To prevent mold some say that you can water wheatgrass with a mixture consisting of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 litre water.
Well, that’s it, if you hurry planting some wheatgrass of your own, you might get a fresh batch just in time for Easter! :)
