Learn how to make a unique essential oils diffuser using dried lavender and chic French Jars. Or make more and strategically place them all around your home, keeping it fresh and naturally scented.
The idea of having something fresh on hand to give a nice subtle fragrance to our home has always been appealing to me. Especially after learning more and more about essential oils and discovering their truly amazing benefits. I sometimes light one or two scented candles in the evening when I need to relax or I simply add a few drops of essential oils to my reed diffuser and fully embrace the natural perfumes.
But I also love to keep a few dried lavender bouquets in small pitchers or jars to create beautiful vignettes, for a little bit of ‘chicness’ here and there. Adding essential oils to these dried lavender bouquets was somehow the next logical step to do :) And even though I mentioned this method on the blog before, today I’m actually showing you how you can easily create your own essential oils diffuser using dried lavender and some chic French jars.
One of the shortest and easiest project in the DIY history, you’ll see! :)
How to make an essential oils diffuser using dried lavender
You will need:
- jars in different sizes and shapes (recycled or new ones)
- French labels (I created a printable for this project using beautiful several graphics from The Graphics Fairy)
- a brush
- Mod Podge
- dried lavender bouquets
- Lavender essential oils
To make the chic French jars you simply adhere the French labels to the jars using your brush and a little bit of Mod Podge. To download the French labels and find more details on how to do that, you can check again my DIY Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles.
After you have your chic French jars, cut the bottom of the lavender sprigs to match your jars’ sizes and arrange them as you wish. You can divide one large lavender bouquet into several smaller bouquets to create more pieces with different heights!
Add a few drops of lavender essential oils on top of one or two flowers and make sure the drops are slowly falling down the sprig. Don’t spill any on your furniture, the essential oils are super strong and they might stain or even deteriorate it.
As you can see, this is not your regular essential oil reed diffuser! For this version you just add the essential oils drops on top of the lavender flowers and add more, over and over again, as soon as the perfume starts to dissipate. Just make sure you keep your essential oils bottles close by!
That’s it! I told you it was a short and easy project! :)
Use your favorite angel statues, painted cutting boards, vintage books or other decorative items you have around and you’ll have a beautiful vignette for any room of your home.
We have an open floor space so I strategically leave a few of these beautifully scented jars in different places, this way the fragrances are evenly diffused.
I also love to use the essential oils diffusers in the bedroom, one on each night stand, for a calm and super relaxed sleep and in the bathroom, for soothing long baths.
I sometimes ‘break the rhythm’ and also add a few peppermint essential oil drops to the lavender flowers, especially in the office, where I work and I need to keep my senses sharp! Peppermint essential oil reinvigorates, you sure need that in the office! :)
You can also use any other favorite essential oils, who says dried lavender flowers have to smell like … lavender? :)
You can also use artificial flowers if you can’t find dried lavender flowers, but never use fresh lavender flowers or natural plants, as I mentioned earlier, the essential oils are super strong and will hurt or even kill your living flowers/plants.
I hope you like my version of an essential oils diffuser using dried lavender and French jars and make one or two for your home! :)
