DIY Gold Foil Vintage Bee Birthday Cards – learn how to make these absolutely amazing birthday cards using spray inks, metallic gold foil and a laminator
Hello creative friends! You know all those times when you forgot about a friend’s birthday and you feel like a birthday card and a chocolate box would be a lifesaver? I’m sure that has happened to you on more than several occasions, so today I will be sharing how to make a few birthday cards … in advance. I went with a vintage bee theme for my cards and added a few metallic gold touches. You cannot go wrong with vintage bees and gold, right? :)
To make things easier, I created a black and white printable for you! A usually prefer sharing a non-colored version that will give you the chance to experiment with your favorite colors and create something that you really love!
I’ve also included (along with 2 vintage bee printables) a blank card base, so you’ll be able to make everything from scratch!
I will be showing you:
1. How to print and cut the birthday bee cards and the blank bases
2. How to stain the bee cards.
3. How to gold foil the bee images using a laminator.
4. How to gold foil the birthday card’s edges using a glue stick.
5. How to assemble the vintage bee card and the blank base.
I decided to use my DIY spray inks for this project, but of course, you can try other mixed media techniques using your favorite supplies. I’ve also sprayed a little bit of water to create a chic watercolor-y effect, it’s really amazing how a little bit of water can make such a difference!

As for applying the gold foil, I tried 2 of my favorite methods – using a laminator and a glue stick!
cardstock paper (I used the all-media cardstock from Seawhite of Brighton)
laserjet printer (I have this laserjet printer)
laminator or Minc
heat transfer metallic foil
parchment paper | scissors
glue stick (I’ve had great results with Uhu and Staedtler, not all glue sticks work)
plastic sheet or clear silicon mat – to protect your working surface
heat gun (or a hairdryer) – optional
bone folder or scoring board
You can put a lot of love into your paper project and turn them into truly unique creations! These beautifully gilded, absolutely gorgeous DIY Vintage Bee Birthday Cards are the living proof that DIY experiments can bring so much joy into our lives! Especially in these troubled times, we need to learn to take a few moments to decompress and do something that we really love.
