Learn how to make your own DIY Antique Adult Coloring Mandalas and find ideas on how to uniquely color them using different ‘instruments’, even add some chic golden touches using acrylic paint and liquid gold
Hello friends! Are you ready for a new & super exciting DIY project? I hope you are, because today we are making some beautiful DIY Antique Adult Coloring Mandalas to which I added a few (OK, a lot of) golden touches :)
I had this project in mind for a while now and the cold weather outside somehow pushed me into the right direction. Because we now tend to spend more and more time indoors, I thought it would be so much fun to always have these on hand and just color away, whenever you feel like relaxing or unwinding from a long stressful day!~ This post contains affiliate links ~
The amazing world of adult coloring pages opened up for me a couple of years ago and I still enjoy spending a few spare minutes now and then to decompress while coloring something. I adore the coloring books from Johanna Basford but I also love my favorite 100 free coloring pages for adults and children.
This project is incredibly versatile and highly adaptable to your needs and preferences! I just LOVE this type of projects, that give you endless possibilities for experimenting and getting creative in your own UNIQUE kind of way. Don’t you?! :)
There is also some cutting, painting and distressing involved, because I wanted some sort of a ‘wooden base’ for my mandalas, that would give me (and you) the possibility of getting creative even more!
You will therefore be able to actually color the medallions on top of that wooden base! So beside adding character to the whole distressed-to-perfection-vintage-antique concept that I envisioned for these beauties, the wooden base is there to help us, too. How cool is that?!
I will be sharing the whole step by step process on The Graphics Fairy, as part of our collaboration. Here is what to expect – I’ll show you how to:
• trace & cut the wooden bases (with suggestions on what materials to use)
• paint and distress the wooden bases
• glue the mandalas on top
• use your favorite coloring ‘utensils’ and different mediums to color the mandalas
• protect the colored mandalas afterwards – if needed
• find unique ways of using them afterwards
As for the coloring part that I briefly mentioned above, I actually went into a lot of details and shared tons of suggestion on how to use markers, colored pencils, metallic pens and different liners. There are basically endless possibilities here, you can follow along with my suggestions or just use whatever you love most!
You are the creator of your own colors schemes, according to your personal preferences, so the choice is ALL up to you! :) You can get really creative here and create your own pieces of art!
Let’s just talk about the whole gold madness for a second here. I LOVE gold lately and I love finding unique ways of using it. Not in an ostensive kind of way, but in a more subtle and gentle kind of way. For these DIY Antique Adult Coloring Mandalas, I used gold acrylic paint and liquid gold to color some of the beautiful details, also to add highlights or to tone down the other colors I used.
I’m really happy with how they turned out and I feel that all those golden accents even gave them a really classy and elegant look.
