Today’s post is one of those posts that you will be glad you just stumbled upon! :) It’s an easy seasonal decorating with French jars project that can be made in just a few minutes with things that you already have in your home … and in your garden!
I just love this kind of projects! They don’t take too much of our time, they are highly adaptable to any season and are super easy to integrate into different vignettes and settings. You will only need a few minutes to gather all the fresh goodies and figure where to put them all. Why not start with one vignette in your kitchen and see where the inspiration takes you from there? :)
Easy Seasonal Decorating with French Jars, flowers, fruits, fresh herbs and essential oils
Of course you will need ‘la pièce de résistance’ – some beautiful Shabby French jars, painted in whites or beautiful pastels and aged to perfection! Have I told you how much I love these jars? :) If you haven’t tried making some for your home (your office, your wedding, your everything) now it’s the perfect time to do that. You can just follow my tutorial and make some Shabby French Painted Jars in your favorite colors, some that will match your home color scheme …or just your mood for the day! :)
So now that you have your jars, go check your garden for all kind of lovely fresh herbs and flowers!
And your fridge for some good looking limes – unless you live in a climate that supports your needs of growing limes in your garden! Because in this case, I’ll give you my address so you can send me some! :)
I tried different combination using yellow and blue painted jars, fresh mint and some beautiful delicate daisies. Daisies are like the pretties flowers on earth, don’t you think? :)
Mix and match the colors of the jars as you wish, add some more mint or any other fresh herbs like rosemary or basil, add small white plates (I used tapas plates) or glass recipients in different shapes and sizes, filled with limes (or lemons or any other fruits), candles, empty frames (for a little bit of layering), a grain sack towel (for texture) and a distressed wooden board to complete the whole look.
The mint and the basil are growing like crazy this year. Which is a great thing, because I love them both!
Especially the mint, remember my Strawberry Mojito Smoothie? :)
You can improvise and just use your imagination again and again to create the most amazing, natural and easily adaptable vignettes.
And your home will look and feel so fresh! Plus you’ll have some good Feng Shui energy flowing through your rooms, with all these natural things that you are using!
You can also use some fresh or dried lavender (depending on the season) to add some more color and perfume to your vignette.
And speaking of perfumes, I’ll even share a little secret with you! It’s one of my most precious secrets and I only share it with friends! :)
So here it is… What I usually do when creating this kind of vignettes is just add a few drops of essential oils … somewhere in there. Just try this with lavender essential oils, mint essential oils, rosemary or lime essential oils and your home will not only look beautiful, fresh and natural, but will also smell amazing! One day … you will thank me for this! :)
I’m in love with essential oils from Now Foods ever since I discovered them and I use them (sometimes obsessively) all around our home, for refreshing the air, making homemade beauty products and even making cleaning natural products. And I’m super excited that now I can order them from iHerb*, I’m listing a few of my favorites below, for your convenience. Have you ever ordered something from iHerb*? (If you haven’t yet, you can use code QFZ546 on your first purchase and you will even get a discount).
And as a side note, if you decide to use some amazing essential oils and take your vignette to a new level, make sure you use them on dried flowers or fabrics (check your fabrics first so the oils won’t stain them), I found that essential oils will dry (and even kill) some living plants.
So just integrate a few drops of lime essential oils in your vignette if you are using limes, a few drops of lavender essential oils if you are using dried lavender and so on.
And just in case you are wondering about the French labels that I designed using beautiful graphics from Karen / The Graphics Fairy, they are now available on Karen’s blog as I’m starting a new collaboration with this amazing fairy and I’m making some of my graphics and collages available for free download on her blog.
So don’t forget to check the step by step tutorial on how to make the Shabby French Painted Jars, you will also find the download link for the French Typography Labels and some other amazing projects that you can make using recycled jars.

Or my Neutral French decor for fall -1 where you will also find MY LIST – a basic set of French decorations that you can just adapt to every season and use all year in your home and the Neutral French decor for fall – 2 if you want to add a pop of color.
But if you don’t feel like making your own painted jars, but still want to cheat to create your own vignette using fresh herbs and flowers that you can find in your garden, you can just hack an Ikea pitcher and turn it into a beautiful vase! :) See this tutorial here on how to create some DIY French Vases using black acrylic paint and waterslide decal paper with your favorite French graphics.
That’s it for today, don’t forget to pin, share the love and leave a lovely comment below! :)
Would love to hear your thoughts on what you would also add to your easy seasonal decorating with French jars … besides the obvious French jars, of course! :)
Don’t forget to smile,
Diana
