Learn how to easily sketch using tracing paper and create these gorgeous DIY Tracing Paper Sketch Birds!
Hello, creative friends! I’m back with a new, super exciting tutorial today – I will show you how to make your own DIY Tracing Paper Sketch Birds! You will love this project so much you will just want to sketch anything that you can lay your pencil on! :) The most amazing part of this whole experiment is that you can have fun with these even though you don’t know how to sketch or draw!
Our star ‘ingredient’ today is tracing paper, I will show you how to harness all its magical properties when it comes to sketching, but also printing on it.
I will show you how to:
1. Sketch your drafts using tracing paper and a pencil
2. Sketch your final images using tracing paper and a fineliner
3. Scan / photograph with your phone the final images, modify them in Photoshop
4. Print on tracing paper again to get that beautiful sheer and translucent background
I mentioned a few times before that for me was impossible to print on tissue paper. I tried everything, but everything failed. The paper kept jamming into my printer over and over again, even though I used several methods to temporarily adhere it to a piece of paper to strengthen it. I knew tissue paper was not for me, but kept the idea somewhere in the back of my mind. One day I found an old tracing paper pad I had for ages, so I thought why not give it a try?! I can’t even tell you how happy I was to see that it actually worked! Without any prepping, I just set a light paper type on my printer and fed it through – I actually printed the French collage paper that I shared last time – if you want to give it a try, you should! It looks AMAZING!
These sweet little DIY Tracing Paper Sketch Birds were really fun to make, I had no idea sketching could actually be so addictive! :) I still can’t believe I sketched these, they turned out pretty amazing, right? :)
I’m over the moon in love with them, so I included the sketches that I’ve made as a free printable for you! ♥
You can use the birds in millions of ways all around your creative adventures, experiments or other endeavors, they will look stunning anywhere!
I quickly added them to my DIY 5 Minute Notebooks, just to give you an idea.

I’m a little confused. Why don’t I just use tracing paper and trace the graphic you provided? I think I must be missing something.

You can trace the birds that I sketched or directly use the printable, the choice is all yours.
I wanted to encourage you to try this whole idea of tracing and sketching from scratch, it’s really fun and can be turned into a ‘habit’ for other images too!
