The French Made tin boxes are super easy to make. You can paint with acrylics (black and white or two other contrasting colors to get a distressed look) and reuse different sizes tin boxes. Apply waterslide decal paper with desired graphic – I mainly use French graphics form The Graphics Fairy, they are absolutely gorgeous.

Is the black added just as a color choice? Can I add blue for example before applying the white paint?

The black color is my personal choice, of course you can add any other contrasting color. Blue sounds great, would love to see the final result.
Just make sure you use candle wax before the two contrasting colors.
