This creamy and foamy coconut oil coffee will completely change your regular coffee routine and will turn your mornings from dull to pretty awesome in no time.
Ever since I discovered the benefits of coconut oil, I’ve tried different recipes to incorporate this amazing superfood into our lives – I used it in this perfect homemade granola or these insanely delicious dark chocolate coconut bites that you must try!
As for coffee, I’m not what you would consider an avid coffee drinker and I have to confess that at some point I loved more the fragrance and the idea of freshly made coffee rather than its taste. I did drink it occasionally but I liked to keep things simple so just adding some milk into my regular cup of coffee was THE THING for me. Pretty boring, I know …
Recently I discovered on Pinterest that one of the many uses of coconut oil is adding it to your coffee! I was skeptical at first and I imagined a not so good looking cup of coffee with some greasy coconut oil floating on top. I was sure I wouldn’t like it but I decided to give it a try and just check it on my coconut oil – things to try list.
And when I did … it completely changed my whole coffee drinking routine … and my life :)The whole experiment coincided with receiving my beautiful – amazing – can’t believe I won prize from the giveaway that Kerryanne from Shabby Art Boutique organized on her blog a while ago (she kindly shipped it all the way from Australia, so thank you so much Kerryanne) – a precious handmade latte cup in pretty blue pastels with white dots and a lovely spoon with painted Shabby Chic roses from Greengate.
I loved my new delicate set and my newly discovered coffee combo so much that I even drank two cups of coffee that day! Yes, me, the occasional coffee drinker that suddenly got super excited when thinking about a new cup of coffee! :)
The coconut oil coffee that I discovered that day had a totally different texture that I would have ever imagined. It had a creamy and foamy top layer that was just perfect (I recommend digging in with a spoon first :D). Not to mention the coconuty sublime taste that can turn your mornings from dull to pretty awesome in no time.
So, do you want to know the secret in making the perfect creamy and foamy coconut oil coffee?
The answer: A BLENDER!
Of course, the coconut oil, the freshly made coffee (and the milk) are essential, but the blender is the pièce de résistance in the whole process. The coconut oil emulsifies when blended and will make the whole mixture creamy and perfect. The coconut oil is also known for its amazing properties like being able to increase your energy, speed up metabolism, boost your immune system, fight infections, improve blood cholesterol levels or digestion. - 2/3 cup freshly made HOT coffee (regular or organic)
- 1/3 cup HOT milk (regular or vegan)
- 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil (add more to taste)
- -------------------------
- brown sugar or other sweetener (optional, to taste)
- vanilla extract (optional, to taste)
- --------------------------
- 1-2 dark chocolate squares (optional) or
- 1 tablespoon cocoa (optional)
- ---------------------------
- You can adjust the quantities and experiment in creating your perfect coconut oil coffee (more milk will make a great latte, less milk will make a stronger coffee).
- Put all the ingredients in a blender.
- Blend for 30-50 seconds or until the creamy and foamy top layer is formed.
- Pour in your favorite cup and enjoy while hot.
I love using the coffee from Lavazza (either Crema e Gusto* or Qualita Rossa*) and the coconut oil from Nutiva* (you can purchase them using my affiliate links – see more of my favorite products here), or you can use the ones you love. My blender is not a fancy schmancy one, so any blender will work.
Later edit: Now I HAVE a fancy schmacy blender, one that has super powers! :) I absolutely love it, you can read here 10 things you didn’t know a high speed blender can do to see what it can do!
Treat yourself with a coconut oil coffee today, healthy and delicious, and remember, the blender is the most important part in getting to the creamy and foamy part.
Blended, not stirred as someone we all know would say if drinking one of this superfood coffee! :)
