DIY Faux Vellum Scented Labels – learn this easy technique of turning regular paper into vellum paper and use your favorite essential oils to give it a heavenly scented fragrance!
These are some strange times we are living, my friends! It seems like our lives have been literally turned upside down in a matter of weeks and we are forced to deal with so many emotions and feelings in these uncertain days. We are trying to stay positive and keep an open mind about all of this, but sometimes it’s really hard not to get overwhelmed with worries, anxiety and even negative thinking. Been there, done that, as I’m sure you all have.
Our lives won’t definitely be the same after all this, but excessively worrying and living in fear can affect us both mentally and physically. I remember reading these days somewhere that one of the biggest thing that creates issues in our respiratory system is actually fear. The more afraid we are, the more frozen we become in our capacity to communicate, think or react! Our system becomes fragile and can easily break down under so much tension. We don’t want that, in fact we want quite the opposite – a strong immune system that can help us fight! I’m planning on writing an article on how we are trying to naturally strengthen our immune system to fight any viruses, so keep an eye open if you are interested.
I try to convince myself that this too shall pass, but I often find myself excessively thinking about this situation, worrying about the future, about our small business, about our lives. I try to snap out of it and I try to reconnect with the present moment. And I realize how blessed I am! What I have NOW is all that matters! And I thank God for my family, for having the opportunity of experiencing love, for being able to work from home for the last few years doing what I love, for writing about my passions and sharing my creative journey with you, for all the opportunities that brought me to this moment right here, right now! So I’m grounding myself to the present and I try to count my blessings instead of feeling down, taking life one day at a time and trying to adapt to the new events as they unfold.
DIY Faux Vellum Scented Labels
I have to say that doing something creative also helps! It’s so amazing how a DIY project can really uplift your spirit, so I’m really hoping that trying this faux vellum technique will give you a good state of mind and will help you take your mind off of things. At least for a while! ♥
And because we have to stay in to keep safe, I thought it would be fun to use supplies and ingredients that you might already have around!
So we will be playing with some vintage French ephemera labels that I created for you, regular printing paper and oil to create the sheer faux vellum effect, coffee to stain and give the paper a worn, antiqued look and essential oils to give the whole project a fun and unexpected twist!
I decided to use almond oil to create the DIY Faux Vellum Scented Labels, but you can use any other types of oil like baby oil, castor oil, vitamin E oil, grape seed oil, even vegetable oil, anything that you have on hand. I actually use some of these oils as carrier oils for my essential oils when using them on the skin, so I thought it would be a great idea to also combine them here. I mostly buy my oils from iHerb (you can check some of my favorites HERE), but I’ll share the links to Amazon too, if you prefer buying them from there.

Essential oils are usually my go to when I’m feeling a little bit down, they have uplifting powers that almost instantly put you in a good mood! They are a nice addition helping us to better cope with the current #stayinside situation, so I wouldn’t skip using them on this project!
Lavender flowers (and their essential oil variation) are definitely my all time favorite, you’ve seen me use them in another chic projects too.
