Don’t throw your old CDs anymore and recycle them into some beautiful DIY Vintage French CD Coasters, perfect for summer entertaining or gifting
Hello, friends! Are you ready for a new DIY project? :)
I have the perfect project for you to try this summer, some Vintage French CD Coasters, that would be ‘the cherry on top” for all your family and friends gatherings.
And yes, we are recycling old CDs and we are using them as our ‘base’ for these lovely coasters, so don’t throw your old CDs anymore, you will be needing them to make A LOT of these beauties!
On a more personal note, for those of you who didn’t know, we were in the process of moving to a new house for the last few month and we are now finally all settled in our new home! Yuhuu! :)
The whole process lasted waaaayyyy longer than supposed to and it sometimes felt like it would never end. It was overwhelming. It was hard. It was tiring. It was frustrating. Moving is never fun, I’m sure you can relate to that, especially when downsizing and moving to a smaller house. Especially when realizing you somehow (knowingly or unknowingly) had the tendency to turn into a hoarder (or at least slowly getting there) during the past few years and that you have way too much stuff to fit in your new home. And that you own things that you will never have enough time to even use! :) We lived in a large house for the last 5 years, we ran our business from home and let’s just say that things tended to keep piling up when we had so much space to spare.
Call it a coincidence (or not), but the whole moving process somehow coincided with me watching Minimalism: A Documentary about the important things on Netflix and finding the guys from The Minimalists – Ryan and Joshua – who were exactly what I needed at that time! If you haven’t heard about these two guys, I highly recommend you watch the movie and pay them a visit on their blog. Read their story, there are a lot of things that you can learn from them and implement into your own life. You can simplify your existence by getting rid of the things you don’t really need or love, or those that don’t add value to your life. If this seems hard to you, just think at it this way – the things that you only keep but don’t really use might add a great value to someone else’s life. And guess what? Simplifying on different levels and getting rid of all of the unwanted baggage only allows you to make room for the real important things in life.
Ryan, one of the guys from The Minimalists even conducted an experiment and packed all the things from his home in boxes. Can you imagine that? Clothes, furniture, tableware. EVERYTHING! He then gradually unpacked, day after day, only the things that he really needed to use in his everyday life. You will be amazed by how little things you REALLY do need, because after a given period of time, most of Ryan’s boxes were still unpacked!
So for me the whole moving to a smaller house experience / adventure was also a learning to let go process. It was hard at first but I was willing to play that game! And in the end, it was quite liberating! Don’t imagine that we made (too) drastic changes or gave away all our stuff! No, we didn’t do that. But we did give away MANY of the things we didn’t really use and I was extremely happy that Mr. Dreamy was very supportive. We both were on the same page on this!
You have to do this in your own terms and take the things that you feel you need from The Minimalists’ story, the things that you can relate with. Start small (with maybe declutterring one room in your home) and see the whole process as a simplifying and purifying process for your mind and soul. This will give you so much peace!
Back to today’s project, these DIY Vintage French CD Coasters are so easy to make! A little bit of painting with highly diluted brown acrylics will give regular white cardstock paper a beautifully textured Vintage look and you’ll have some amazing coasters in no time. I’ll show you how to easily achieve that!
And speaking of simplifying, this project could also be a great exercise to declutter your CD stash! :) If you make them for your home, I highly recommend making a few extra, these would be perfect for gifting for so many special occasions. Your friends will love them!
I’m sharing all the step by step process with lots of pictures on The Graphics Fairy, as part of our collaboration, make sure you head over there to see how to make them. I’m also sharing 4 different beautiful printables so you can easily make these on your own! I’ll even show you how to waterproof them so you can enjoy them for a really long time.
P.S. I also discovered that you can make Mojitos in my Vintage French Apothecary Jars and Bottles! I really love how they look …and taste! :)
Don’t forget to smile!
