Strawberrylicious superfood smoothie with chia seeds / Super smoothie delicapsunicios, cu seminte de chia

July 1, 2015 By Diana / Dreams Factory Leave a Comment

What better way to refresh on a hot summer day than an energizing and healthy smoothie packed with fruits, almond milk and tiny miraculous chia seeds?
For me, this is pure perfection and I usually take a few minutes off when making and enjoying a smoothie, so this is also a great way to decompress. I am so lucky to be able to take these short breaks whenever I feel like it, working from home definitely has lots of advantages. :)
I like to keep things simple when making a smoothie so I only use a few ingredients: fresh or frozen fruits and almond or soy milk for a dairy free version (you can also use regular milk). And some amazing chia seeds (that I really really really love) to supercharge it with minerals, calcium and omega 3 – or any other superfoods, I’ll give you a few ideas in a bit.

Here is what you’ll need for this oh-so-good strawberry superfood smoothie with chia seeds
(for 2-3 servings)Ingredients♥ 2 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen) ♥ 1/2 banana (fresh or frozen / use a whole one for a sweeter version)  ♥ 1/2 cup milk of choice (add more if too thick) ♥ 2 teaspoons chia seeds
♥ ice cubes (optional, if you don’t have frozen fruits)HOW TO MAKE IT

Blend all the ingredients for a couple of minutes, except for the chia seeds, until you have a creamy and smooth mixture. Pour it into your favorite vintage looking tall glasses, add the chia seeds and wait for a few minutes for the chia seeds to expand. Decorate it with pink straws and fresh strawberries and enjoy your smoothie breaks on a regular basis.

I have only discovered homemade smoothies a couple of years ago, so I’m not an expert. (But I’m slowly becoming one! :) ) I do like to experiment and I encourage you to do that too when it comes to making YOUR OWN perfect & healthy fruit smoothie. Just get creative and combine your favorite fruits, trial and error tasting works every time :) Here is what I’ve learned so far when it comes to smoothies, hope you will find this helpful.

TIPS & TRICKS

♥ To freeze fresh fruits just wash them real well and put them in ziplock bags into your freezer. For example, I usually put one cup of strawberries into a bag and I know this is for one or two smoothies, depending on what other fruits or green leaves I’m using. For bananas, you can peel them, cut them into chunks and freeze them in portions, whether it is a whole banana or a half one.

♥ If you don’t have a powerful blender (I’m still dreaming of a Vitamix), it is best that you wait for a few minutes before blending your frozen fruits or ice cubes, so you won’t break your blender.
♥ You can make your own fruit cubes by blending, then pouring into ice cube trays and freezing fresh fruits or leftover smoothies. This is recommended if you want to avoid watery smoothies.♥ Another cool trick is to use some ice cube trays to freeze your milk and use it in your smoothies when needed.

♥ You can always add a handful of green leaves (spinach is my all time favorite) to a fruit smoothie, for a little extra healthiness or just make a green perfect smoothie like this one. You can also freeze your green leaves in small packs, perfect for one or two smoothies.
♥ Supercharge a smoothie in a natural way and fill it with nutrients by adding one of these superfoods – chia seeds, chlorella or spirulina powder/tablets, flax seeds, coconut oil, bee pollen, fresh avocado, cacao powder, coconut butter, goji berries, maca, hemp protein or wheatgrass juice (learn how to grown your own wheatgrass).Pretty cool tips & tricks, right? :)
What I love most about smoothies is the fact that they are so easy to make. You just put the ingredients in the blender and in a few minutes you can enjoy this magic potion, better and definitely healthier than all the drinks you can find in supermarkets nowadays.

What about you, what is your favorite fruit smoothie? Do you use any superfoods to give it an extra boost of energy? Would love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to leave a comment below.

VERSIUNEA IN LIMBA ROMANA
